just get to talk to a secretary , on the phone , who offers to take a message. Would really like to know of any polite (at the moment!) ways to speed up getting a cheque .

  1. if the invoice is overdue send a letter pointing out you will go small claims if they do not pay up within n days, and if they dont pay go register a small claims.

if they debt is significant enough threaten them with a winding up order.. you need to testify what the invoice is for, detail why its valid, detail what steps you have done to try to collect it. if they fail to pay in time as a company they are toast, you are first creditor to get paid and the company is wound up. it works but it costs a lot more to enact than small claims, but the amount you can claim is not limited as small claims is

the trouble is that both small claims and winding up orders tend to p**s off the customer.. so its likely you wont get much work from them again....

in future always make sure your terms of business state payment within n days or interest (state rate.. 1% above LIBOR?) accruable from date of invoice.. but htat doesn't help you right now
