  1. If it isn't H. Pylori you can treat it by working on the muscles and joints surrounding the sympathetic supply to the Oesophagus and Stomach. These can become tight and the paraspinal muscles sqeeze the sympathetic chain making it function less efficiently and can lead to an over production of acid.

The vagus nerve may also be implicated. If this is being impinged in the upper complex the parasympathetic supply may be suppresed again leading to an inbalance between these 2 aspects of the nervous system.

Osteopathic, chiro or Physio treatment may help in releiving the symptoms.

When my patients complain of acid reflux I check the mid T-spine and the upper complex and nearly always find restrictions and increased muscle tone in these areas.

The symptoms do improve with treatment but sometimes return as the spinal restrictions are just as offen an effect of having acid reflux as a cause of acid reflux. If this is not the cause and the cause remains after these areas are treated, the symptoms usually return.

  2. The first thing you want to do is to find what is causing the problem.  One of the main problems that people don't know is drinking bottled water.

Drinking bottled water can cause acid reflux because the water is very acidic.  Stop drinking it, and after a while, you will see the problem go away.

  3. u can get a tablet u can swallow like zantac or a cheaper alternative available in asda, sainsburys etc. these are better than the chewable tabs.  also i used to find a cup of boiiled milk helped, try to eat a plain diet and if it continues see yr doc.

  4. Try sipping a little milk when you have too much acid.  Sometimes a little water will help also.

  5. I also agree: Ginger or Mint tea is great.  Problem with ginger is that if taken too often or too long it will cause heat to build in your stomach/digestive system.

If you have a Whole Foods or Vitamin Cottage near you, go ask for the Chinese herbal formula called Curing Pills.  Better yet, call around to your local acupuncturists and find one that carries this and similar formulas (must be purchased thru licensed herbalists).

Arrowroot powder is also a great temporary solution.

In any event, stop taking antacids!  They coat the stomach lining, causing the acid needed for digestion to weaken or become alkaline.  Long-term digestive problems always come with extended antacid use.

  6. Oh goodness! I assume you mean relieving stomach acid in a non-medical way?

There are 2 common causes of acid issues, GORD ( or GERD in US.) Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and ulcer issues and their management is somewhat different.

GORD can be helped by ensuring that you are not overweight, sleeping with the upper body elevated, ( i.e. blocks under the head end of the bed.) Eating frequent small meals, rather than any large meals, avoiding meals late at night and avoiding smoking, which increases stomach acid levels. Even after these non-medical activities many patients will remain symptomatic and will need acid lowering therapy, usually in the form of prescribed PPIs, taken long term.

On the other hand if the problem is ulcer based, we now know that diet has little effect and the problem is due in 85% of cases, to infection in the stomach with the organism heicobacter pylorii. The only way to clear this is with a very successful management called 'Triple Therapy'. This is only available on prescription. The good news is that it only takes a week to produce a cure.

  7. Ginger or Peppermint. Works well in small amounts of tea. They sell ginger tea or pepperment tea.

  8. The most common would be Baking Soda. It is a natural

ant-acid. Arm and Hammer used to have the mix ratios right there on the box.

In Egypt and Hawaii they used to suck on the aloe vera plant. remove the skin and place it in your mouth. I works wonders even heals ulcers. Only problem is it is the most vile thing you might ever taste.

  9. Ginger, peppermint and chammomile (most often taken in tea forms) are great for relieving and calming acid in the stomach. They all help to eliminate gas (carminative) and can calm irritated stomach lining and aid in digestion. Here is a link that goes more in-depth about how each one works. I hope you find something that works for you!
