Any tips? my baby is trying to walk but i'm scared of the wooden floors

I wasn't a mum who wraps her baby in cotton wool (well not too much cotton wool) but today my baby who is cruising, standing and trying to walk fell from standing and hit the back of his head on the wooden floor. Now I'm scared of letting him walk because he hit his head hard and hurt himself. Does anyone have any tips on letting their child walk on wooden floors. Even if we have a rug he'll want to walk where their isn't a rug. Any answers please apart from 'get carpet' would be appreciated

  1. if you're really worried about him, then you could get some of those spongey foam tiles (i think ELC do them) that slot together, at least that would cusion his fall a bit. I wouldnt worry about it too much thought, he will get the hang of it in no time :D xx

  2. i would let him go for it kids fall all the time. and since it not from far up he should be fine

  3. Mine too has done the same she pulls herself to standing and walk along the couch and I have wooden floors too she has fell and hit her head numerous times sometimes crying sometimes not....I know it's not good but I think it's part of the learning experience

    good luck

  4. We have wood floors and everytime my son falls from standing my husband yells out of fear and our little one starts to cry so to get everyone to calm down I started cheering and clapping and saying "Good fall, Ian!" all excited everytime he'd fall and now he claps anytime he falls or sits from standing...very cute...as far as safety goes....keep him barefoot or in socks with grippers so he can keep his balance...this has worked from us..and remind yourself that falls will happen..you went through them I went through them..it sucks for our little guys have to go through them also. Best of luck! ooohhh and light weight pants work miracles for tiny knees ;)

  5. Babies are going to fall no matter what.  I have tile floors and my baby's 7 months and I know she will be walking soon.  I'm terrified as well but I know I have to let her learn.  Just keep a close eye on him and there's not much you can do.

  6. you should let him,

just make sure that all sharp edges and anything he can hit his head on.

maybe get him a baby walker so that he can walk with out falling.

and maybe put shoes on him so there is traction and less chances of him falling and never let him wear socks on it

  7. Make sure he's not in socks or little pj's with feet. Something that helps baby not only not slip but also helps them learn no walk properly is baby shoes. even the soft sided ones as long as they still have a rubber sole. They help with traction and keeping baby's foot from automatically going on on their toes.

  8. when your baby gets ready to walk around on his/her own  then put something soft all aorund your house so your baby ownt hurt him/her self

  9. Oh i remember those days!, there's not much you can do and i'm sure you don't want to re-carpet your house!

Just make sure he isn't wearing socks on the wooden floor as this can make it very slippy.

Hopefully soon he will have found his feet and be more sturdy on them.

    All the best.

  10. honey don't be scared babies will fall down no matter what you do .. it's ok i have marble floor and they fall like a million time what they learned is to rise up after each fall and ask for mommy's kiss .. so don't worry and let the baby fall down ... as long as you are aroundtheir skull is not like ours God designed it to take the sshockseasily .

  11. I have wooden floors too, and when my oldest was cruising and figuring out walking, she fell so many times. She eventually got the hang of it. My youngest is now doing the cruiseing thing and she has fallen...as long as there isnt like sharp corners or anything that could seriously hurt him, a couple bangs to the floor are fine...its a learning experiance. We all have fallen...when learning to walk, ride a bike, rollerskate, etc. as long as nothing can seriously hurt them, its ok.

  12. Well I dont think its bad for kids to fall and hurt themselves, thats how they learn and I doubt he will di himself a serious injury. If you behave anxious around him then he will pick that up as well. I had wooden floors when my son learned to walk and he fell many times and also had sore knees from crawling but he didnt let that put him off, you need to let them get on with it. If you are really worried get a big rug that will cover the majority of you floor.
