I'm looking for a gate that will fit on the bottom step. I thought about a Superyard XL to go around the whole bottom of the stairs, but I don't have enough room. It's right up against the wall. Any suggestions?

  1. get a wooden play pen and fix it around the bottom ... with a few screws ... you can patch up the screws holes when its no longer needed...

  2. I could totally rig you something if I was there. I think your pole is 4 inches in diameter. Get the right sized diameter steel fence straps (they use them to secure wood beams to metal fence poles), and secure a wood beam (like a 2x4) vertically. They only need to be like 2.5 to 3 feet apart vertically.  They should not be able to rotate on their own, so put a piece of rubber between the straps and the pole (this will also keep the paint from scratching).  Then make a "door" using a regular piece of OSB board (really cheap particle board basically). You can buy 3ft by 3ft scraps of it at Home Depot for like $0.75. s***w any two hinges you have to the OSB door, then s***w the same hinges to the 2x4 mentioned earlier.  You can use anything as a gate lock.... a metal latch, a reusable ziptie, a clip on dog collar (probably your most convenient alternative), etc. I'll draw a picture then post it on my website then give you the link.

    Still drawing it......

DONE! heres the picture in the sources box!
