Question:

Any tips on getting ear drops into my cat's ears? She HATES it!

I've recently adopted a 3 year old cat - took her to the vet last week and found out she had ear mites. I've got drops that I'm supposed to put in twice a day for a week, then have a week off, then treat for another week.

Thing is, she absolutely HATES it and generally I can manage to get the drops in one ear but then she runs off. I can't seem to hold her tightly enough with one hand since I have to use the other for the drops, and I live on my own so don't have anyone who can help with it.

Would really appreciate any tips on how best to go about this.......

  1. i agree with  your second answer   thats what i have done!

  2. I had the same drops for my kitten. Wrap her in a towel, tightly swadelled like a baby, paws tucked in. With one hand gently hold her ear in an accessible angle and put the tip of the dropper in so the drops go right into the ear canal (dont push it in or you'll hurt her, just as far as you can go without actually touching the ear). After the drops go in massage gently the side of her ear to help the drops sink down. The drops worked a treat on my kitten from the Cats Protection. Good Luck x

  3. Wrap her burrito style in a towel with only her head sticking out.  Apply the ear drops and give her a treat.

  4. you should wrap her in a towel and hold her either between your legs (gently) and she shouldnt mind then, remember its for her own good.

  5. Hmm wait till she's sleeping? :S

  6. you have my sympathy! I knelt with my cat between my legs and close to my body so he couldnt back away and held him tight-it's still very difficult though if you don't have anyone to help-mine really hated it too!

  7. you ve just gotta be quick! then let her run away - she'll come back! just grab her and be as fast as you can - she wont like it, but none of them do - she'll still love you!
