Any tips on how to do a back flip?

I am trying out for cheer leading at my school, and we have already practiced some stunts, one of them is the back flip. Most everyone else can do them, but I can't. Any tips on how to complete a back flip?

  1. first, why is this in the swimming and diving?

    but then again, that would be the first place i would want to learn...

    before you go and do a back flip on a mat which could have a rough landing... do them in the water. and then off the board.

    dont go to your local spring board... go to someone's backyard and go off of their super bouncy (haha) diving board.

    doing a back smacker will hurt a whole lot less then a concussion or something similar...

    first, water.

    second, have spotters

    third, on your own...


  2. if yu can do a back hand spring you are in luck- just start to do that and grab your knees!(of course let go to stand up) good luck! they are so fun

  3. i just got mine, heres what ppl told me... (ps. back flip is tumbling not stunting) just get used to the feeling of being upside down by going on a trampoline. then try doing it off of stuff onto a mat. make sure you set, jump high, grab your legs when you tuck and pull them in, and opening just takes getting used to. practice practice practice!
