I've asked a few people who have done it before, and one guy is telling me i have to have a special type of trunk line that my registers ducts run off of, but another guy has told me that i can just run a 10 or 12" flex duct and run my smaller ducts off of that. Does anyone know which of these I should use, or if both of them would work?

  1. Both will work.Flexduct is less durable though so if in a traffic area is not recomended.Just use plenty of duct tape for no leaks

  2. Flex is cheapest and use Foil Tape  do not use duct tape.

  3. OK , as an A/C technician i have one thing to say......."get a professional to do it". It is illegal for you to do it, you must be licensed, you are only talking about the ducting in your question. The actual HVAC equipment (indoor and outdoor units) must be installed by a qualified person.

  4. The first one. Hard duct is best.

  5. Flex duct is c**p, you cannot clean it well, once in a while your ducts need cleaning or you will have allergies you never thought you could get, and for the price of claritans nasonex and other medicine and lose of work, go with the good stuff now because later never happens unless it's bad stuff. borrow against a  extra car or boat so if something happens, you don't loose everything, but go with good stuff now.
