my moms always yelling at me to keep my room clean.

I just have THE hardest time keeping it clean, i don't know why.

The longest i can keep it clean for is like 4 days (maybe).

so... any organization tips you can share with me? or (if you do) how do you keep your bedroom/anything clean?

  1. If you're like me you have too much stuff for the space you are occupying.  It's time to get rid of things you don't use/need on a daily or weekly basis (move to attic or basement if you can't bring yourself to send them off to Goodwill or the dump).

You can try all of the organization techniques in the world, but they won't work if you have too much to put in that area.

Lastly, you need to think of a way to get your mom to see that you are not a messy person.  Keeping your room clean for 4 days is REALLY GREAT and it's not right for her to make you feel bad about what you are doing.

I know that you're young, and this site is for grown-ups - but take a look at flylady.net - you can get some good ideas AND encouragement about cleaning/ organizing and getting rid of clutter.

Good Luck!  It's great that you are trying to make your life better/ easier and the very first step in solving a problem is to "identify" the REAL problem (ie, it's not that you are messy, but that you have too much stuff for such a small closet or dresser, etc..) and then.... reaching out and asking for help will catapult you to a happy ending!

  2. A place for everything and everything in it's place.

If you don't have boxes, shelves, drawers enough to store everything you own, make a plan and talk to mom about buying storage equipment.  Google IKEA, the Container Store, Wal-Mart and Home Depot.  Figure out how many more buckets/baskets/boxes you will need for "stuff" and if you need more space for clothes, you could probably get rid of a lot and have enough room left.  Check out the closet storage options, too.

  3. Here are some tips:

    1) Rather than trying to clean it all at once, take a timer and set it for 10 minutes and tidy until the timer goes off. Do this once a day, every day.

    2) Take some time and go over everything you own and be ruthless about what you keep and what you don't. There is no such thing as 'this may come back in style'. If you have something that you haven't used in the last 6 months, then toss it, or give it to charity.

    3) If you have a pile of items that you are absolutely unsure whether you should keep or throw, than put these items in a box and put the box in the attic. If in a month you haven't gone back into the box to retrieve something then just take the whole box to the curb, or donate it to charity.
