Question:

Any tips on spiking better in volleyball?

Hi, I play outside hitter on my junior varsity volleyball team and I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for spiking.

So far my spiking has been very inconsistent..

One day it's perfect, going about an inch over the net, good swing, and into the corners.

On other days, I can't seem to even get the ball over...

I am currently doing a three step approach and I'm right handed. Any tips on spiking better? Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

Write fast, thanks.

  1. 1> Jump behind the ball, not "under" the ball.

    2> Snap your wrist.

    3> Follow through.

    Higher vertical could definitely help.

  2. you should definitely work on strengthening your core, have a good approach and snap.

  3. Many players have problems getting the ball over the net when they don't reach. Make sure when ever you contact the ball that your elbow doesn't drop below your head. Once you work on your reach, you consistency should definitely improve.

  4. It sounds like a conditioning issue.

If you can hit perfectly sometimes, you must already have good skills.

I think you should see if your're sleeping and eating well or if your body is worn out or tired before you play.

In my case, whenever I didn't get much sleep the night before playing volleyball, I had problems passing, especially floaters.

Without good resting, it's hard to concentrate on the ball.

  5. I use to play outside hitter but now im a setter. The way i like to approach is at an angle outside the court so you can see the whole court. appraoch the ball at its "highest peak" like everyone says. The when u swing at the ball coming in from an angle u see everything meaning that u can hit line if open or cross court 10 foot line. when u swing at the ball twist your upper body and hit on TOP of the ball and snap ur wrist. It worked for me. i hit pretty well doing that.

    good luck yo

  6. im not really a good spiker. but i think it is just on proper timing when hitting the ball..  you know what its not on how great you are in spiking its on how flexible  your body is. good placing of the ball coud outsmart your contender..

  7. i am a outside hitter myself... i have been working on my hitting for a while it isnt something that just comes to u... u could stand on the boxes and practice ur form.. to hitting the  ball down... umm thne get off and pratice ur approach....start further out so u get more power in ur running start.... well that is all i have for u now.. sory i hope this helps a lil

    good luck

  8. ~Keep the ball in front of you when hit. If not the ball will most likely go out of bounds.

~Hit the top of the ball.

    ~Work on your timing.

~Make sure you hit the ball at the top of your jump.

  9. get under the ball and snap your wrist...... take your approach and use your arms to help you jump higher so you can spike it badass

  10. Do the two hand sway approach before attacking the ball... It will help you in your follow through approach...

  11. well I play vball too, and this is what was wrong with my spiking:

    1. I was under the ball

    2. I wasn't swinging "all the way through" (doesn't seem like that's an issue with you though).

like that other person said, getting up on a big box and hitting over the net really improves your strength and your form. also, try tossing to yourself (like a jumpserve). it helps.

  12. could practice the three step approach if u got that down then work on jumping and hitting the ball over the net. be sure to jump high and have fun practicing it.

    good luck and have fun!

  13. first of all you do not want to hit the ball only an inch over the net, you want to hit the ball as high as you can over the net (still keeping the ball on the court).  second, it is good that you are aiming deep corners. third you just have to make sure that right now at your age you keep your eye on the ball. as you get more experience you learn to see the set, and you are about to understand the flight of the ball and you can look away from it to the block. once you can see the block you can hit around the block. sorry that is getting ahead of the question at hand. when you hit make sure to reach as high as you can. if you are an outside you must be one of the taller ones on your team, so hitting into the net is not an option if you miss, miss deep never short.

  14. you should jump up really high and slame the ball really hard and some were there aren't many players
