Question:

Any tips on staying cool in hot weather?

I'm in Grade 8 and where I live it's extremely hot.

I absolutely detest hot weather and I get extremely sweaty and red faced whenever it's hot. :(

On Friday (yesterday), I was in class and I suffered from heat exhaustion during a test and had to go home.

There are no fans in any of our classes; I brought a water bottle which didn't help much.

So basically, my question is:

How can I stay cool in hot weather if I'm in a class (with 32 other kids... *groan*) and there are no fans nearby?

Thanks.

  1. The best thing to do is to drink more water, not soda or juice. I dont know if you could do this in a class room but a towel thats soaked in cool water and rapped around your head will also do the trick. But again thats hard to do in a class room.

Edit: You could also take a small rage or somthing with you so you can wipe the sweat off of your head. Becuase if its not evaporating you wont cool down.

  2. Aaaaah, I know what you mean. I'm Tanzanian and it's bloody hot over there. I've only had heat stroke once, but maybe I was more used to it. (Of course, now I'm in the US and it's FREEZING and I miss Africa.)

Drink lots of water. Also, between classes, put water on your back. Not so much that people stare, but enough to cool you down. It really works.

Have grapes and watermelon with breakfast and grapes for snacks (I assume you can't have watermelon as a snack.) They're very cooling.

Completely avoid soda and anything high in sodium. They're terrible for heat.

  3. Wet your clothes and ask if you can bring your own small table fan to the class. Better still, get your parents to ask your teachers to put at least two big floor fans in the classroom.

  4. maybe ask your teacher if you can bring in one of those little fans.. or wear shorts instead of pants short sleeves instead of long sleeved. there is only so much you can do when you are in school. but forsure drink lots of water. hope that helps.
