Question:

Any tips or advice about flying internationally with a 3 month old baby?

I'm thinking about how to deal with her ears popping at high altitudes.

About bottles and formula....is formula allowed on the plane?

And how can we steam clean the bottles for her next feedings?

What about changing her?

Any advice from those with experience would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Too bad your not breast feeding - makes it a whole lot easier.  Don't worry about ear popping, just let them drink during takeoff and landings or suck a passifier.

Here's the info from the TSA website:

When traveling with your infant or toddler, in the absence of suspicious activity or items, greater than 3 ounces of baby formula, breast milk, or juice are permitted through the security checkpoint in reasonable quantities for the duration of your itinerary, if you perform the following:

Separate these items from the liquids, gels, and aerosols in your quart-size and zip-top bag.

Declare you have the items to one of our Security Officers at the security checkpoint.

Present these items for additional inspection once reaching the X-ray. These items are subject to additional screening.

You are encouraged to travel with only as much formula, breast milk, or juice in your carry-on needed to reach your destination.

You are allowed to bring gel or liquid-filled teethers, canned, jarred, or processed baby food in your carry-on baggage and aboard your plane.

For information on creams, medicines, or other essential items for your child, please read our guidance on these items. Click here for the list of permitted and prohibited items.

  2. Baby formula is an allowed exception.  You can ask the flight attendants for boiling water (like for tea) to clean the bottles - they're usually more than happy to help.  Your doc should be able to help the baby cope with flying, or of course you could give her a wee bit of benadryl or something to help her sleep which will keep her from noticing the ear pain from altitude changes.

Changing goes in the airplane bathroom, its just cramped.

    Good luck

  3. My sister felw with her daughter when she was 3months i know everyhting worked out fine but then again that was before 9/11 and everything wasnt so extreme on the checking for bombs. You might want to call the airport you are useing and ask those questions. They should be able to give you those answers. I hope this helps =]
