Question:

Any tips or advice for flying internationally with a 3 month old?

We are going to be on a long international flight with a few stopovers with our 3 month old. We are a little worried.

I'm thinking about how to deal with her ears popping at high altitudes.

About bottles and formula....is formula allowed on the plane?

And how can we steam clean the bottles for her next feedings?

What about changing her?

Any advice from those with experience would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Don't worry. It will be many years before it will again be as easy to travel with her. You'll just have a lot of stuff to schlep.

Speaking of stuff, be sure to have in your possession on the plane at least one copmplete change of clothes for everybody. Spitup happens, and so do poopsplosions, both usually at the most inoportune time!

Later edit: You do realize she needs her own passport, right?

Formula is allowed. (It works better, though, to carry it on dry on mix it as needed.)

    Who steam cleans bottles?

Ears are usually not a problem cruising at altitude, but more while climbing out and decending. Bottle (if not breast) then.

  2. http://www.tsa.dhs.gov/travelers/airtrav...

That link has all the info about traveling with infants and the rules about formula (liquids).

As far as her ears popping...this is most likely going to happen most at take-off and landing...so definitely time her feeding so that she eats at both those times.  It will help her a lot.  Most airlines have changing tables in at least some of the lavatories on the airplane.  I'm not sure, but seatguru.com might give you this info.  Just look up the airline that you are flying on.

  3. Well first of all, if he can chew pretty well, something that keeps your mouth going, like, don't use this idea, gum, but something she cannot swallow.

I am pretty sure formula is allowed on a plane.

    Use a replaceable bag bottle.

Go into the bathroom to change her.  If you are going by yourself, then you will have trouble changing her.  But, if you have someone going with you, have them hold the baby while you change her.
