Also, how is it better or worse than a gas stove? I am getting my very first, used electric stove and oven to learn to cook and bake with!

  1. Just like anything else, there are pros and cons.  I prefer an electric oven for baking, gas ovens just don't seem to be as consistent a temp.  As far as cooking, gas is a little quicker to get hot but when you turn it off, it's off.  Electric stays hot awhile.

There really isn't much maintenance, just keep it clean and the best way to do that is to wipe up things before they get dried on.  You didn't say if it was a coil burner unit or a ceramic top unit.  The coil burners are a bit tougher to keep clean = more cracks and crevices for stuff to get into.  Ceramic tops are wonderful but you MUST wipe the spills up before they dry on.  If you get a nasty boil over or something, there are special cleansers you can buy that will take it off.  Do not use anything except the special cleansers or hot soapy water and a sponge or a dish cloth!  No steel wool pads, Comet and the like or you will scratch the devil out of it.

I've cooked on both gas and electric and really have very little trouble going back and forth between the two....you should do well!

  2. they are a PIA!! cooking isnt bad, just remember that when you do the top is still hot several minutes after you have shut it off-there should be a red light indicating such-to clean its hard but at walmart they sell this thick liquid you apply to the top of the stove and that cleans really well
