Question:

Any tips to avoid tailgaters on the freeway?

I always try to drive in the slow lane and keep to the right lanes as much as possible, but there are still other cars tailgating me. I'm driving slightly below or at the speed limit in the slow lane to save gas.

Tailgaters are less of a problem for me on local streets. I realize that no matter how fast I drive and in what lane I drive in, there are always tailgaters. I don't know what to do, can you please help?

  1. Seems to me that they may be trying to 'draft' on you, and save their own gas, too..

  2. if you tap you brakes a few times(not to slow your car just so your brake lights go on) in a row that should back them off.

  3. slam on the breaks

  4. You could tap the breaks. This usually will get a tailgater off your tail.

Also, just leave enough room between you and the guy in front of you, so if you do have to stop in a hurry, the guy behind you might have enough time to react.

  5. Not much you can do.  It takes some time, but you have to learn to ignore them.  At least, not let them affect your driving.

As unsafe as it is, know that an accident involving rear ending is almost always the tailgater's fault.

  6. Its simple, don't take the highway if you can't maintain your speed.  If you can't afford gas, get a job closer to home.

People tailgating you makes a bad situation.  Giving them a brake test makes the situation worst.

I hate it when people can't maintain their speed.  No matter what type of road one is driving on.  I don't have a problem with somebody doing the speed limit.  Its when the car I'm following looses speed up a hill, around a curve or just plain no paying attention.  I show my frustration by closing the gap everytime a person looses speed.  When they accelerate, I give the space back.  I will repeat all day long.  If I get brake tested, I will return the favor in spades.

Just like you, I'm trying to conserve my cars resources too.   I can't enjoy the drive when,  I have to consume my brakes and gas when I have to slow down and/or accelerate to maintain my speed.

I find it really annoying that people truly don't know how to drive, yet blame others around them for the same thing.

  7. After doing all the correct things denoted in question suggest

question source better address the tailgaters.  I recently saw

in motorcycle catalog a license plate frame that includes 2 inch high strip of red LED lamps that can be made to read

left to right five seperate messages of 150 characters each,

to be selected while steering vehicle, all of which the reader can install with hand tools.  I'm inclined to believe an auto supply firm could probably order reader(s) something to

    spell out your fustration.

  8. they are everywhere just go slower and they will hopefully pass you but if all else fails get a bumper sticker that says i brake for tailgaters. and adhere to that policy lol jk! no really just go slower and let them pass and get their aggressions out. keep a smile on your face and wave it pisses them off even more the cussing

  9. turn on your headlights (even during the day ) this will also

turn on your tail lights and the tailer gater will think you are slowing down and usully go around you as to them you are

    going to stop

  10. If your driving below or at the speed limit there is no reason at all for you to be in the left hand lane ever.   Be courteous watch your mirrors and move over.  You can drive the speed limit all you want in the right lane just stay there.
