I have had 2 small clone Tomato plants for about 3 days now. They are very healthy and growing fast. But tonight, they are doing something they have not done. Come to think of it, i have never seen a plant do this.

The plants are both 1 stem from the soil that branches off into 2 stems that have leaves growing off them. The 2 stems on each plant were going Left, and Right. and Hanging down a bit. Tonight. Both 2 plants stems that branch off from the main stem are now Pointing straight up into the air. So they first looked like a Y with the points just going straight out to the sides. Now they are going straight up into the air and are quite litterally less than 1 inch away all the way to the end of the stems..

Any ideas?

  1. Two 'ideas'

    1. Tomatos droop when they're water deprived.

If you just replanted them, they could be plumping up.

    2. Tomatoes are light seekers. Those stalks with their

leaves will grow/turn to get the best light.

  2. Could this be what you are speaking of ? Open the link below for more information.

    Curling leaves

can be the start of several different tomato diseases: Curly Top, Mosaic and Fusarium all start this way. However, if no additional symptoms appear, you simply have a case of Tomato Leaf Roll. This occurs more characteristically with certain varieties (Big Boy, for example) and although it is somewhat a mystery, it usually shows up after excessive rainfall or over watering. When the soil stays wet for too long, the older leaves on the lower half of the plant start to curl (roll) upward. In a few days, after the soil dries out, it may just go away. It's also thought that this condition can be caused by intense sunlight, which causes the accumulation of carbohydrates in the plant.

  3. They probably had a growth surge and just went heading towards the brightest light source (sun). If you're growing an indeterminate variety of tomato, then this is certainly the case as they will turn all of their stems upwards eventually.

I've also had this happen overnight when a tomato plant has fallen off it's support. The next day when I check it, I've found the stem laying on the ground, but the growing tip is bent to start heading skyward again.
