Any train routes from South Orange County to Escondido?

I live in Rancho Santa Margarita in south Orange county but every tuesday and thursday I commute down to Escondido in north San Diego county and I was wondering if there were an trains that would take me from either the San Juan Capistrano train station or the Mission Viejo one down to the new train station in Escondido. I know there's probably not one route directly but is there a way I can get down there by train?

Yes.  You can ride Metrolink or Amtrak from Irvine to Oceanside.  In Oceanside you will transfer to the Sprinter which will take you to Escondido.

The Sprinter is a brand new service that was scheduled to start up March 9.  I  don't know (yet) if the start date has been pushed back again; the Escondido line was originally supposed to start running in January.
