Question:

Any tricks for getting those dispenser pumps on soap and lotion bottles to pop up?

It seems like they're getting worse. Nearly HALF of the hand soap/lotion bottles I've bought lately have dispenser pumps that won't "pop" when I turn them--which makes the pumps unusable.

Is it something I'm doing wrong when I turn them? Or is it just a matter of companies making substandard products in order to drive people like me crazy?

If you've figured out a way to make stubborn dispenser pumps work, I'd appreciate knowing.

Thanks in advance!

  1. Try pushing down lightly, then, rotate in one direction or the other.

  2. I've took those things apart and cleaned them, but it doesn't;t help.  I think we are getting substandard products.

  3. I ask a 2-yr. old. It seems that they're the only ones who know how to open "childproof" containers. My daughter did it for me when she was 2 and at the ripe old age of 24 she's still opening them.

Last week I fiddled with one of those soap pumps, finally got it to open and I couldn't remember how until you asked. I turned a new one counter-clockwise and it opened, but it doesn't pop up. Stores must have been getting too much guck on their counters and the pumps have been redesigned so that they unscrew and then release the contents when the pump is depressed.
