Question:

Any tricks to get her to pee in the potty the first time?

My daughter is showing all the signs of being able to be potty trained. She actually just ripped her diaper off and ran and sat on the potty for 10 mins. But she didn't pee, and she hasn't peed in it yet, although she knows she's supposed to. Are there any tips or tricks to get her to pee in the potty that first time? Like sticking her hand in water or tickling her? Lol, just wanting her to pee in it once so we can start a sticker chart. Any ideas? Thanks!

  1. my son is now potty trained!!!  FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!  I tried all the tradition methods and none of it worked.

This is what I did.  Left my son with no diaper on.  He asked for a diaper and i gave it to him not realizing that he had to pee.  So the same thing happened the next night.  I would not give him a diaper.  He was doing the pee-pee dance like crazy.  I sat him on the toilet and was telling him about what we were going to do the next day and he went!  After that he was all set.  He runs in there no problem and by himself.  He comes out and is all happy!!!  As am I !!!!!

  2. lol the best piece of advice for potty training is "let them do it themselves" dont force anything, i wouldnt do sticker charts or anything like that. maybe a piece of candy when she does go, but make it as casual as possible. and then when she does go... make it a huuuuuuuuuuuge deal. applaud her and say "WHOOO!!! GOOD GIRL!!!!! I"M SO PROUD OF YOU!!!" and then call grandma and grandpa and aunts and uncles and make it just this big event. she'll love the attention! (and family members will be ecstatic that you're sharing such a milestone with them)

one other trick i did was reward MYSELF when i went potty. though i didnt call my mother when i went, lol i did sort of a role reversal, and my son would clap for me and say "WHOO MOMMY! GOOD JOB!!" you'll love it and so will she. GOOD LUCK!

    hope this helps...

ps i also agree with the 2nd poster. you dont need to be in the bathroom with her when she goes, she'll let you know. imagine the pressure you'd feel if you had someone watching and waiting for you to go. lol

  3. To avoid stagefright, always let the child go to the bathroom alone. She already knows the routine. Don't follow her in. One day soon  she'll tell you the job's done.

  4. Try turning the sink water on.  Not full blast but just a small stream.  Otherwise she just needs to sit there a while maybe give her some books.  For my 2nd daughter, everytime she pee'd in the potty she got to put a sticker on the potty.
