  1. Many people like Learning Language Arts through Literature.  However, my daughter did not enjoy it and we quickly switched to a different program.

  2. We found Easy Grammar, Easy Writing by Wanda C Philips very helpful.  Also Spectrum Writing seems very good.

Above all try to saturate your children with good literature.  They are never too old for story time.  Help them discover the beauty of the written word.

  3. I was given one of the older versions at one point and then had the chance to check out the newer version. I did not like the newer version as much as the older--there just seemed to be a lot more busywork and less thinking. Regardless, it didn't really fit our style.

  4. I used it with my oldest daughter when she was in second and third grade.  It had some very good points, but I actually felt like I wanted MORE literature than was covered in that program.  Also, the second grade book seemed better organized than the third, which was a big reason why I didn't use it again in fourth.

THe second grade had spelling lists, and all sorts of things, but the third grade wanted the parent to make their own spelling lists, I guess I wasn't too good about that because we didn't do much spelling that year.

A very similar product you might want to look into is Total Language Plus, it has all of the positives of LLATL but also has the advantage that you can pick out which specific titles of literature to cover.

    EDIT------------ EDIT------------------ EDIT

If you are looking for a great High School language course you also might want to check out Lightning Literature and Composition from Hewitt Homeschooling Resources.

  5. It's good, but my son didn't like it.  We switched to Bob Jones.

Edit: We're currently using BJU Press Handwriting, Spelling, and English; lit analysis, reading, and poetry analysis are through our history program, TRISMS.  (My son is in 6th grade.)  IEW is also integrated in history and other subjects for writing, it covers all types of writing.  You can pick your own source texts or go with the myriad of options they carry.  :)
