My friend has just had her exam results back and she has now qualified as a Teaching Assistant Level 3. She now reckons she can open her own nursery as one of the units she covered was management. I say shes living in cloud cuckoo land as no parent in their right mind would put their child in a nursery run by an 18 year old! What qualifications does she need so i can advise her?

  1. Anyone one can open a nursery, they don't need to be qualified as long as they employ a qualified manager. The manager needs to have a level 3 qualification and have at least 2 years experience and be fit to work with children.

A list of recognised level 3 qualifications can be found here http://eypquals.cwdcouncil.org.uk/public...

  2. She needs at least 3 years experience as a manager first!

She then needs to qualify from the Level 5 Leadership and Management course, as all managers need to be by 2010, qualified at level 5!

And yes she is living in cloud cuckoo land.
