Any useful ideas-welcome?

i got 1/4 acre of land--any idears -on what case crop i could grow--i was thinking flowers of some kind--but any other suggestion???

You might try strawberries or mushrooms.  Either one can be profitable on a small amount of land.

How about tomatoes rotated with onions every other year?

Depends on where you are located but here are a few ideas that I have seen produce some unbelievable profits from small parcels of land in the right area.

Herbs

Flowers

Mushrooms

Tomatoes

squash

Berries, (blueberry, strawberry, blackberry, etc)

It just depends on what market you have and what you can grow in your temp zone.  Most areas of the US it is easy to grow seasonal produce out of season in a well insulated greenhouse.  If you can sell straight to stores or restaurants then herbs might be your best bet.  If your selling to your neighbors then veggies and berries are probably better.

A couple of ways to go here,

Nitch-market high income producing,

not just any flowers,, but check with the flower shops,, see what plants they pay the most for then pencil out the inputs and see if you can produce them at a lower cost.

Check the local grocery store’s see what produce they charge the most for,, then use the same process,

Check with the local restreuents,, see what they would like to have fresh local access to.  

Local fresh grown, Consumer direct marketing.

Farmer’s markets is one of the fastest growing segments of agriculture.  See what is and isn’t available in the farmer’s market in your area. use same process as stated.

Take into account ALL your costs, equipment, water, fertilizer etc.. every “input”. The trick is keeping the input LOWER than the INTAKE !!  If it takes $1.50 to make $1.00 you aren’t coming out ahead.
