1. Laser wavelength is shorter (blue laser) on Blu-Ray Disc than it is with DVD (red laser).  This is how the higher data density is possible on Blu-Ray Disc.  Shorter wavelength light has a lower tendency to scatter.  Beam scatter causes optical noise that limits the data density of the disc.  The smaller the beam scatter, the more data can be made to fit.

2. The electronics on Blu-Ray Disc are not only more advanced, but different in the various ways they work.  For example, Blu-Ray employs the Advanced Access Content System encryption that is more complex than DVD's Content Scrambling System.  In addition, the player may require updates to the descrambling algorithm every once in a while from the internet or possibly via an update disc in the event that the existing algorithm is cracked in order to keep the player working.  Blu-Ray Disc also employs support for various codecs that DVD does not, such as H.264/AVC and SMPTE VC-1.

no blue ray and normal are 2 diffrent things like mac and pc they aren't compatible but u can use normal on blu ray

nope, the lasers are different, and the paper they use on the blue ray is more advanced than the dvd one. sorry dont be cheep and go out and buy at least a ps3
