You can check out stores near universities to try to catch University Discounts. It won't be much difference though since Apple Products are pretty consistently-priced.

In all honesty don't buy  cheap MacBook.  Buy it new so that you know it is good and worth it.  A lot of people will sell MacBooks cheap with half the software deleted, or if the laptop doesn't work so well anymore.  But it directly from Apple, it could save you a lot of money instead of buying missing software or having a broken MacBook fixed.

Try looking in the classifieds, newspapers, craigslist, kijiji.   Macs are about the same price everywhere.
