Any way to block an indoor light switch?

Hey,

I recently moved into an apartment and the wall that my computer desk and bedside table are on only has outlets that are connected to the switch. I want to keep this on all the time and was wondering if there was a way to block/cover up the switch somehow. I am in an apartment so any type of rewiring is out.

Thanks,

Chris

  1. Turn off power.  Remove switch plate.  Remove two wires attached to the switch and twist them together.  Then s***w on a wire nut.  Then wrap all in electrical tape for added protection.  Carefully push back into electrical box.  Install new blank cover plate.

  2. Either buy the gadget that goes over the switch to keep it from being turned off or easier yet, take a piece of tape and tape the over the switch to keep if from being easily turned off.  When you want it functional again, take the tape off.  Pretty simply and effective.

  3. The above is the best solution, but if you absolutely don't want to mess with the wires I have seen gadgets that are a strip of metal that are screwed onto the switch with the screws that hold on the face plate and have a loop that holds the switch in a particular position.
