Question:

Any way to connect 2 way speakers to a receiver with three way output?

The receiver has two sets of outputs for the left speaker. Should I only connect the high freq terminals to the speaker, or connect both the high and low outputs to the one set of terminals on the speaker?

  2. I've never heard of a receiver with a three way output for one speaker - what is the make and model of the receiver?

Edit - You never want to connect two amplifier outputs to each other - amplifier outputs are designed to be connected to speakers ONLY.  You may damage your Sony unit if you connect the high and low outputs together.

On second thought, you probably cannot use regular speakers with that unit.

  3. Two way speakers just means that they have two drivers, a woofer and a tweeter. Should still just have a positive and a negative hookup on each speaker.

Do you mean your receiver has left, right and middle outputs? Then hook up your speakers to left and right.

(Edit) I see. It is an integrated system, and Sony decided to put the speaker crossovers in the receiver instead of the speakers like every other manufacturer I've ever seen. Well, you can try wiring your speaker to both the high and low frequency outputs - in theory this will mix the signal back together, then your speakers will split it back up again. Be Very Careful! Reds to the same wire, blacks to the same wire. Don't crank it up until you can tell if it's working at very low volume. Can't guarantee it won't cause internal problems with the unit! It was obviously designed to mate with the specific speakers they provide with it.

(Edit) If there are seperate amplifiers for high and low frequencies, there will definitely be problems. If, as I am guessing by the specs of the receiver, there is one amplifier being run through a speaker crossover to split highs and lows, then there probably won't be a problem putting the signals back together.
