  1. There has to be, but the question is what are the regulations.  There´s probably a quarantine period, etc.  Check with the closest US Consulate.  Is there a consulate in Morelia?

  2. Your question is very interesting, however, I would need more information before I could give you a definite answer:

    a) What kind of lizard is it? Is it considered an endangered species?

    b) Where did you acquire the lizard in Mexico? If this is a pet that you purchased from a Vet or Pet store, they must be able to provide you with information regarding the health and condition of the lizard.

If you want to do this the legal way I must warn you that it will cost you some money, and you will have to prove that the lizard is in good health by providing a statement from a vet declaring the animal safe and in good health.

    I quote:

"Many countries require your pet to have an International Health Certificate (APHIS FORM 7001 - "United States Interstate & International Certificate of Health Examination for Small Animals") to be completed by the APHIS accredited veterinarian who certifies animal health status, conducts tests, and records test results for the individual animals being exported".

This website will give you much more information and some very useful links to the agencies that are involved with the import/export of animals:

I hope this will help you. Good luck to both you and your new lizard friend! :)

  3. Sneak it into your bag! Hehe

I'm sure the lizard won't hold it against you :)

    Good Luck

  4. There are thousands of Iguanas living in Florida - and are dumped into the everglades because they got too big for their owners to handle,  They are also a good source of samonella bacteria.

  5. Ok first of all you have to get the lizard in a pet shop so they can hand out sanitary control papers, which they are obliged to, if you got the lizard from a flee market or someone on the streets then is much unlikely you can fly the little lizard. If you bought it in the pet shop then you will need to buy a cage to put it in and register the animal at the airline booth, then when getting back into the states the lizard may be or may not be accepted do to animal or sanitary control, you know sometimes the wildlife that is around of your house can not accept an ALIEN FORM OF LIFE, so it depends a lot on sanitary controls, IF YOU still want to take it with you and is small to fit it in your pocket I guess you can try it, Im not prI'mty sure if a lizard can take much of atmospheric pressure changes in the plane. If you are going to be traveling through ground all the way back to the states then there is no problem getting our lizard friend through the border.
