Question:

Any way to refill fork oil on dirt bike without taking anything apart?

I had a little bit of a leak on my fork seal on my '93 KX250. Just a small puddle on the trailer, not sure how much come out in the dirt. Doesn't seem to be leaking at the moment so I don't think its bad, probably just some sand in there since I was in the dunes. I plan to clean the seal with that film trick, but I'm wondering wether I should add and oil to it.

I'm really not concerned about it being perfect, The shocks seem like they are still fine. Since I don't ride that hard, and only go off small jumps, and its an old bike, All I'm worried about is just having the fork oil close enough that it won't ruin my forks, like if it runs out completely.

Is there a easy way to get it close to right without taking anything apart? Perhaps just dumping a little in the air fill hole and using something like a dipstick to measure down in there?

Also, will I be able to just "know" if my forks are getting too low, like will they start bottoming out or something before they risk damage?

  1. There are oil change kits for the front fork. These kits can be used to change your oil from the bottom drain plugs, without disassembling the forks. You'd then have to put a measured quantity of oil in each of them. but you would not have to tear into the seals, springs, etc. if it still works well.  These kits do NOT include oil.

  2. put on your ruby-red slippers, click your heels three times, and wish very ,very hard that your forks will be fixed.....seriously dude,if youre too lazy to do it right,it aint gonna get done at all, either fix it,or f##k it.
