I haven't got ALL plans together with the themes of my wedding. But so far Family is from New Orleans so i went with a NO style wedding with fleur de lis's on cake, invites, and jewelry. I chose red and gold/or black and gold. I got the idea for the colors from this masquerade mask

Any help on some decorations for this style wedding? Should the bridesmaids be in black or red since the groomsmen's vest are gold? Anymore help to make my wedding fit the New Orleans style more?

  1. Instead of red and gold GO FOR champagne and scarlet as your color palette.  In that case you could use classic roses as your flowers.

  2. I think the bridesmaids would look good in black.  I'm doing black bridesmaid dresses at my wedding and our colours are dark cranberry, silver and gold.

I'm doing black because it will be more practical for the girls too. They have to spend all that money on dresses, and to have to buy something they won't use again (like a bright red dress) doesn't seem fair.  Black is nice because it's neutral and completely re-wearable, and then you can add a sash of whatever colour to have everything match (like in gold to match your groomsmen or dark red to bring all the colours in).

We are doing black dresses with dark cranberry sashes, they won't be attached so the girls can wear the plain black dresses again (who doesn't need a black cocktail dress in their closet?)

    Good Luck!

  3. Traditional New Orleans colors are gold (power), emerald green (faith) and purple (justice). Depending on the date, time and location of your ceremony, you should choose accordingly. Red is traditionally not an accepted color for weddings; I would go with the black for the bridesmaids.

(Black/red is not a New Orleans color scheme.)

I think it's real important to separate the wedding from the reception when you plan your celebration.

Traditional weddings in New Orleans are elegant, classy and understated. Frankly, no one wears gold vests or dresses up in the colors of Mardi Gras. The ceremonies abide tradition as well. You don't want your wedding pictures to end up looking like the cast of a circus act.

The influence of the city comes out in the reception. That's where you can incorporate the colors, serve shrimp and crabs, crawfish, Creole or Cajun favorites, decorate the cake with fleur de lis and pick up the gold-purple-green theme. Make the groom's cake a King Cake if he likes that idea.

It is common when the wedding party arrives at the reception for the band (or the DJ) to play "When the Saints Come Marching In." At some point you pick up a parasol and lead a second-line procession around the reception hall.

Have the DJ play Louis Armstrong: Do You Know What it Means to Miss New Orleans, Wonderful World, Audubon Zoo, etc.

Decorate with mardi gras beads and dubloons.

  4. I was in a wedding where we wore masquerade masks. It was really fun! all the bridesmaids had different styles dresses on but the same colors (black and pink) and we all made our own masks.

  5. you could do red, black and gold.

Do the girls dresses in black with red sashes, flowers and jewelry and the MOH in the opposite colors but same dress.

  6. Bridesmaids in Black with red and gold accents. Hire a marching jazz ensemble to play on the way out of the church and outside during your reception line. Put Inexpensive plastic colorful necklaces at the tables at your reception and have the bridal party and parents hand them out for different things thay think are great then at a certain time see who has the most and give them a mask similar to the one in your pic. See if you can get a runner or dance floor that looks like cobblestone.

  7. The bridesmaids should be in red. Not a bright red, but more of a blood red or maroon like in the mask you provided the link for.

If I were you, I would not take this so far into the theatrical or it is going to look hoaky. You do not want it to look like a costume party.

  8. s**y black dresses that can be worn again. With gold jewelry and to jazz it up a red boa.I'd just go black dresses cause I don't like theme-y weddings

  9. Bridesmaids should never wear black IMHO. Red with gold trim would be nice.

Have lots of dixieland jazz & zydeco music and the tone is set!
