  1. Do you walk you dog almost everyday coz if you don't they get over excited when they go out and they do pull. Otherwise the most effective way (i wen't to dog training) is to pull them bag quickly and firmly and say "heal", and alway keep them on you left side. It won't happen overnight though, It'll take weeks, maybe months.

  2. If you are referring to a prong collar (it is not a choke collar with spikes), then you are obviously using it incorrectly.  Prong collars are meant to give "pops" to your dog, not a steady pull.  You have basically deadened your dog's neck by letting him pull and choke himself.  He is not the "dumb***", you are.  I would recommend taking your dog to a dog class and learning how to properly and effectively use a collar and leash.

  3. 1st- get a new collar with out spikes.

2nd- the command is "sit" not sit sit sit sit sit sit sit!!!  only tell him once.

3rd- reteach him basic obedience like "sit", "down", "stay", "come", and you could teach him more fun tricks like, paw, touch(touch your hand with his nose), roll over, play dead, spin, and others.  also teach your dog give it and take it.

4th- go on a website or inroll your dog in a dog training class to help you teach your dog commands.

    5th- walk your dog daily.

  4. The prong collar is only effective when used correctly and positioned correctly.

Odds are, you are doing neither, so you might as well get rid of the prong.

And, the other little behavioral issues your having indicate that you don't really know how to train your dog. So, I suggest obedience. It will give the dog an outlet for energy, stimulate him mentally, and strengthen your bond.

  5. To stop him from pulling,

walk with him by your side and as soon as he pulls, just say 'huh' in a high pitch voice and stand still until he is back at your side then walk off.

Just keep repeating this until he get the idea (which is that you two wont get anywhere until he stops pulling)

When he bites stuffs, don't yell, just say 'no' in a low tone and replace that item with another item that he can chew on.

To get him to sit, do NOT repeat the word without leaving 10 seconds gap in between.

Push down on his bum gently and reward him happily and with treats.

To make him listen to you, let him know that you are very postive to be around - you wont yell etc and reward him with plently of rewards.

Play with him and end the games on your term only.

Also, make him wait for his food before you put it down, this will teach him that you are the leader of the pack.

    Hope I helped.

  6. The best way to take care of an "unruly" dog is to go through a training class with the dog. PetCo offers them at a cheap price. Check into it. Then you will know how to train him and you can ask the trainer questions on certain things you want worked on.

  7. Labs are a high energy and extremely intelligent breed.  Remember that a dog is looking to get what he wants, whether the path to get that is unacceptable in your eyes or not.  So, now you must train...making it difficult for your dog to achieve his "reward" through unacceptable behaviors and offering a more appropriate way of the dog getting this reward.  And let me stress...your dog isn't acting dumb at all.  He has figured out how to run you...very smart if you ask me.

    1.  Prong/pinch collars are excellent....if you know how to use them.  Contact a trainer to teach you the proper way to train with one.

    2. A bored dog is a destructive dog....exercise and spend time with him.  Walks, games, mental stimulation...your dog needs it, particularly such a high energy animal.

    3.  He knows how to sit, he's not listening to you....because, well, why should he?   Yelling is unproductive with dogs just like it ends up being with most kids.  Establish yourself as the leader and be calm but firm in your commands.  Again, a trainer can really help you here.

If you need help finding a good trainer, you can ask vets for a reference.  Or, I found a behaviorist to help me work with my lab through the local SPCA.  It was amazing the changes in my lab after she showed me what I was doing wrong in training, and how to fix it.  Good luck.
