The best site in the world is www.worldchessnetwork.com. It's simply the place where GrandMasters choose to play. It's not completely free, but you can play as a guest or have a free 1-week trial period.

I play on Yahoo! Games every day.

I like the old version better, which they call "standard chess".

The new version is like pogo and don't like it so much.

If the site is down (they do some maintenance sometimes), my back up in Pogo.com
