  1. You ned to get a correct fuel cap - not worth trying to make a home-made one.  To protect your fuel until you can go to your local marine store tape a plastic lid over it.  Do not put off getting a cap

You can buy a plastic one made by Sea Dog fairly cheap - less than $10 US

Here is a listing of caps: http://www.iboats.com/Boat_Fuel_Caps/dm/...

There are a number of suppliers on line or try your local marine store.

  2. use a rag

  3. I would definitely try to get a correct replacement from the dealer, barring that, a replacement fill with its own cap. In the meantime you might use a rubber expanding plug from a plumbing supply house (check the diameter) and be aware that gasoline fumes are explosive. Do keep your bilge ventilated, don't smoke and don't even start the engine if there is any trace or possibility of gasoline fumes (heavier than air) in the bilge (the lowest point in the boat).

  4. Whilst you're waiting to make a gas cap, make sure you pump the bilges thoroughly and regularly, continuing to pump after all water has gone. This will help pump out any gas that may have collected in the bilges. Gas is heavier than air and sinks to the bottom

Many boats explode due to gas collecting in the bilges, please be careful

  5. Go to an automotive store. They will have a replacement.

  6. You can try buying a whole complete gas cap Assembly and see if it screws into yours Or replace the entire unit as water will leak into it if not correct>

  7. go on line to west marine and see what they have, you would be surprised, and they are open Sunday

  8. If possible, go to a boat repair shop and buy a gas cap. Much better than risking a fire from fumes or gas spill caused by a home made one.

To tell you how to make a home made gas cap, we need to know what type of boat you have, and how the gas tank is mounted in the boat. Does the spout stick out the deck or is it recessed? Does the cap s***w on to the spout, or does it s***w down into the spout?
