  1. graffiti

  2. SUPPLIES:

    1. Stiff, straight wire. (Lengths up to 36")
    2. Well sanded pine "cubes".  (Say, 1/2" x 1/2" x 1/2")
    3. 1 - 2"x 6" straight pine board.
    4. 1 drill bit, slightly smaller than the wire.
    5. Wire cutters.
    6. Super glue.

Paint the "cubes" different colors, or all the same.

On the 2 x 6 pine board, cut it to a length of your desire and draw a curved or waving pattern of dots, spaced about 1" apart.

Insert and super a wire vertically into the pine board.  Cut the next wire 1/2" shorter.  Insert and glue. Cut the next wire 1/2" shorter and so on, then after awhile, cut them successively longer, to create a "horizontal wave".  The base board could be of any length.  When all the wire are glued in perfectly, glue on the painted cubes to the ends of each wire. The cubes will need to be drilled before glueing.

Paint the baseboard black as well as all the wires.

You could paint all the cubes using flourescent colors.

When you're done, exhibit the piece in a dark room with blacklight illumination.  Set up a fan to blow the wires back and forth to create the illusion that the undulating cubes are just floating in space.

Instead of cubes, you could use wooden "balls" or any shape.  With design experimentation, this could look pretty cool.

    Hey...you said CHALLENGING!! Right?
