  1. I used to lifeguard for a Y. We had to swim 500yds, (20 laps) in less then 20 min. It's been awhile, but i think a few of the laps had to be specific strokes they wanted, like breaststroke, sidestroke, and of course freestyle!

Then we had to tread water for a few minutes, pick a weight up off the bottom of the pool, and show some water rescue skills.

  2. you have to be 14 or older to apply but no one wants a old person as a lifegaurd so ....... applyyy if your 14-18

  3. I used to lifeguard at the YMCA and it completly depends on the interviewer and that specific YMCA.  I have worked at 3 YMCA's, only one did I have to swim at the interview.  I would ask in advance, just as if you need to bring a swimsuit.  The interviewer should have told you, but if he/she did not clarify.

    A normal swim for a lifeguard is a 500 in 10 minutes.
