  1. Firstly, be prepared to wait in line to see the mona lisa.  Most days there's a whole bunch of tourists crowding around it, so it can be hard to get a good look.

As for other interesting artworks, the place is full of them, and it depends on where your artistic passions lie.  The venus de milo is possibly one of the other most famous pieces.  My personal passion is Greek and Roman history, so I loved the winged victory of samothrace (probably not so exciting if you don't know the history) and the not-so-old statue of cupid and psyche (beautiful, regardless of history).  Michelangelo's 'The Dying Slave' is also not to be missed.  Would also suggest Rembrandt's 'The Pilgrims of Emmaus".

I would suggest, however, that you look at the louvre website (www.louvre.fr): according to your interests, the provide you with a 'thematic tour' guide that will tell you where to go to see all the best/most famous pieces in your particular theme of interest.

And, if you're going to the louvre  because you're an art buff - one day is not enough :)  You may also like to try entering through the metro, and getting there early: the lines are much shorter and quicker that way.

    Enjoy!

  2. Don't go on Tuesday!!

    It's shut - as I found out.

  3. I didn't think the Mona Lisa was all that!  The paintings in the gallery leading to her were more interesting.  Also, I loved Winged Victory (at the top of the staircase) and the mosaics in one of the side rooms.  Don't forget to look at the frescoes on the ceiling, too.
