Ok, i have an incompetent cervix and i am 33 weeks, and they are planning on taking out my stitch at 35 weeks, i was just wondering if anyone had delivered their baby at 35 weeks. And if so, what kind of complications did your baby have if any at all? And if they did what were the complications and how long did they have to stya in the nicu?

  1. I had my youngest at just over 35 weeks. She didn't go to the nicu at all and we took her home at 24 hours old. She did get RSV later and ended up back in the hospital a couple times for short stays and does breathing treatments and things for asthma now but at almost 9 months she's perfectly normal. They said if she was full term she may not have had the same trouble with RSV requiring hospitalization but the weird thing was my older one was born at 39 weeks and he ended up in the NICU for just under a week for breathing trouble so you never know. Stay positive and know that even if the baby did end up there, they would probably be perfectly normal after a short stay.

  2. I was diagnosed with IC at 24 weeks and did not have the stitch, but i delivered at 34+1. (I have 2 delivered at 34 weeks)

I had already had the steroid injections to mature the lungs. My son weighed 2.2kgs, did have jaundice as his liver was not mature enough to cope with the billiruben, and sepsis caused by the IV. he is now 9 weeks and at home and weighs 4.7kgs (10pd) and came home at 37 weeks. As long as yuo have the injections they have a better chance, but really the longer they are in cooking, the better for them.

  3. I had an emergency C Section at 32 weeks and the baby was completely fine.  She was 3 lbs 12 oz but really didn'tt have any issues.  Shes being kept in an incubator to maintain body heat but other than that shes fine.  They generally keep them until they are 5 lbs, so were anxiously awaiting her weight gain so she can go home! My sister was born around 32-34 weeks and had the same issues, just a matter of gaining weight.  Sometimes they have to give the baby oxygen as well.  Some of the babies who's lungs aren't developed enough cant handle the % oxygen that our air is so they need to give them steroids to develop their lungs and then they ween them down to ambient oxygen levels.  This is what happened with my best friends child, and he is now perfectly fine as well.  I wouldnt worry!  Good luck!!

  4. a healthy baby born at 35 weeks would only be expected to stay in the nicu for 5 weeks, or until it would be considered term. some babies are released before, if they gain the reccomended amount of weight. every baby is different. some encounter complications coming out such as inhaling meconium, others make it just fine, and function as a full term baby would.

the important thing is that you made it this far, and you should be looking forward to this day, not stressing about it. (because baby can feel your stress)

    good luck

  5. I came very close to delivering at 30, 34, and 36 weeks. But i thankfully did not deliver until 38 weeks. I started preterm labor at 30 weeks, and was in and out of the hospital until i had my son. Each time i was in the hospital, there were dr.'s and nurses that came to my room from the NICU and explained EVERYTHING to me about what to expect and etc. I remember at 34 weeks, they were telling me that the baby may have a hard time breathing due to lung inmaturity. And the baby may need oxygen, and would probably be in the NICU for about a week or so. Just depended on how he did. So if  you need to, call the NICU where your baby will probably go, and have them explain it all to you. This is  your chance to ask as many questions as you want. Dont be afraid to ask questions. I asked soooo many, but it made me feel a whole lot better knowing what to expect.
