Anybody else concerned about CC Sabathia??

I mean CC threw another complete game, his EIGHTH one since joining the Brewers but most of them have been when the team is leading comfortably by 4,5,6 runs but the Brewers keep him out there. He's also throwing way over 100 pitches. Don't you think the Brewers should just take out CC in the 7th inning and give him rest because they need him to be fresh in the stretch and postseason??

  1. That would be the conventional wisdom in the era of the pitch count. But I am just old enough to remember when what Sabathia was doing would simply be regarded as earning his paycheck. I heard Nolan Ryan interviewed recently and he seemed pretty contemptuous of the way pitchers get coddled in today's game.

I would be inclined to agree with you, though. But maybe the Brewers and Sabathia have a better idea of what is best for him.

  2. I hope Brewers Manager Ned Yost keeps pitching him 8-9 innings every start and tires his arm out, but only because I'm a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan and I want to see the Cubs WIN it ALL in 2008.

I respect CC Sabathia.  He's pitching excellent.  See, the Brewers are trying to catch the Cubs for the division, but if they get closer or surpass the Cubs (heaven forbid), they will start resting him for the playoffs.  Either way, unless the Cubs or Brewers crash in Sept, both teams are going to make it to the post-season, so they should keep him rested.

  3. way over 100 pitches?? no he is not overused. He only had 91 pitches today after 7, and went 1-2-3 in the 8th and 9th. I doubt he hit 110 today.

Plus , when he had a should be no-no going, you don't take him out. Unless someone else gets a legitimate hit.

Just because he hit 100 pitches you would take him out?? and deny him the possible no hitter? WAKE UP!! There is no rule that says starters can only pitch 100 pitches per start.

Leave the pitch count to the momma's boy pitchers.. and fantasy bb boys.

  4. Back in the day you went out there with the intention of pitching a complete game.  there were games i remember where the starter pitched into the tenth or twelth.  One game marichal lost his shutout and the game in the 16th inning.

Maybe the pitchers had a shorter career as a result, but it was more fun while it lasted.

  5. I think it will affect him later in the season and when the playoffs start, they need to use their bullpen which isn't that great.  I'm just glad my Mets are going to miss CC  this series coming up.

  6. If you look at Sabathia you can surely tell that he is not your average starting pitcher. The man is physically big and has shown that he is quite capable of throwing a lot of pitches with no apparent harm. Ned Yost and the Brewer's pitching coach aren't going to push CC if they think he is going to run down. He has been getting phenomenal results and should be allowed to finish games as long as he isn't getting overworked. He has been a workhorse in the past and looks like he can handle it again this year.

  7. im more concerned of him being a robot.  I would think that the brewers would start giving him lighter loads.  I think the brewers manager was foolish to leave him in today with the lead they had.

  8. yeah i didnt think of that till now

he is gonna have to slow down SOME time
