My boyfriend is probably the biggest @sshole on the face of the earth and my father is a jerk who tells me all the time that im dense, lower than men, a parasite, worthless, etc etc.

There's been so many times when I'm feeling down about that kinda stuff and my (male) cat will run out infront of me and plop on the floor to get pet.. I'll pet him and he looks sooo content and adorable..or he'll sneak into my lap and nudge me for some loving and he always makes me forget how down I was.

I tell him all the time - 'you know, you're the only reliable male in my life'.

Do you ever feel sometimes like your pets are the only reliable people in your life??

  1. Yes!!!!!! one of my cat's not very affectionate but whenever i'm feeling either blue, or sick, or tired or just bad in any way he just comes up to me and is SO loving and he lies down on me and...well you get the point. but he is like my best friend when things are down!

keep him close to you, you'll be better off then with your boyfriend!

    ~Alex~

  2. Yes, i remember, when by cat passed away my dad wouldn't allow me to adopt another and i felt like i couldn't trust anyone when i was sad as my cat use to always be there for me.

  3. yes most defiantly

  4. ALL - the time. I know how you feel. I have a father who said the same kinds of things and my boyfriend is usually sweet but when he wants to be nasty, he goes right for the throat. My cat seems to know when Im feeling down, and always acts extra cute. It works every time. Im telling you - forget your dad, ditch your dude, and get another pet. Animals seem to forgive you no matter what you do to them...and they'll never tell you that you're worthless.

  5. There are moments where I really appreciate the dependability of my dog Max. Growing up, I had a horrible stepdad who said the same things to me that your Dad says to you. I had a dog Pete, and he felt like the only one around me that kept me sane.

Your Dad is a jerk; someday karma will come around and he will realize how horrible he's been to you sweetie, hang in there, and make sure to reach out and get help when you need it.

  6. Well one things for sure you can always dump the boyfriend.. Can't be that easy to do for your dad.. And I believe our pets are important beings in our lifes cause no matter what you have done, or haven't done, the dogs and other ones love you unconditionally..

    Best of luck to you

  7. I don't have anyone abusive in my life and I still treasure my time with my pets.  With respect to Etell, no, they aren't human (in my opinion, in many ways they are better than humans) but what they are, they are warm, intelligent, sentient beings will feelings and intuition. They love us unconditionally, (most of the time), they trust us, they make us happy, they make us feel good, and they even keep us healthy. This is a scientifically proven fact.

So don't let anyone tell you that your best friend can't be a little on the furry side. (joke)

But, hon, I worry about you. You can't control your father's behavior, and his behavior is shameful, but that's an issue for another forum.

What you can control is whether you CHOOSE to have a boyfriend who treats you badly.  Having NO boyfriend is much better than a 'jerk' for a boyfriend.   You deserve better, and only YOU can stand up for yourself and EXPECT better.  NEVER settle for someone who is not worthy of YOU.  Don't think you're the problem, or that you can't do better, or that he will change (that NEVER happens)

YOU believe in yourself, that you deserve the best boyfriend there is and YOU hold out until you find him. Imagine being treated like a queen every day of your life. It can happen if you EXPECT to be RESPECTED.

I know I'm getting a little preachy here, but it is so important that you know that YOU are worthy and deserve only the best.

See that you get the best. Until then,  you have your little furry friend to make you smile.

    Dump the boyfriend.

YOU choose the best.  You deserve it!

Go for it girl , what do you have to lose ?

If you don't already have it, and if it's possible, get your own place to live, just you and kitty. You'll find such freedom and confidence.  Living with someone who belittles you all the time is very difficult, if possible, take yourself out of that scene. Only you can make you happy. You and your little furry pal.

    Much good luck to you

  8. Yes and they know when your low and do care.

Get rid of your boyfriend and avoid your father. There are nice people out there lots of them.

Look how many nice people here answered your question because they care.

  9. If he's the biggest AH on the face of the earth, shouldn't that read "my ex-boyfriend".

To answer your question, yes, pets are a lot more reliable than people.

A wise old man once said "the more I get to know about people, the more I love animals".

  10. YES.....like one time i was seriously having a horrible day and i went on my couch and buried my face into the pillow and started crying, and right when I started crying my dog jumped up on my lap and licked me. It's like she knew that I needed comfort!
