Question:

Anybody else finding it hard to sell their car at the moment?

The parents are trying to sell the family car (petrol) for an MPV Diesel. It's a smart car, 1997. And they are struggling to get any attention, it's priced at £800 and the starting price on Ebay was £500 and we got no bids.

We are guessing it's all this petrol nonsense. Anybody else having similar problems?

  1. With Ebay the bids all happen in the last few minutes.

    They should use Autotrader (.co.uk)

I've always sold cars there within days.

  2. not realy

  3. Hi

Unfortunately the smart car is not one of the best to sell and it is getting a little old for what it is now .

Yes the motor trade is felling the pinch at the moment and you can tell by the offers of 0% ffinance that are being offered at the moment this is always the first indication of slow down in the trade .

Your parents may be best to trade it at the moment because of the slow trade with the dealers and shop around some of them are offering £1000 min part ex prices ! that's got to be worth a look for your folks .

    Good luck

    Hope this helps

  4. hi i notice if you have a starting price of 1p and let it run then you should get more bids

  5. What car is it? I sold a 1997 Ford Mondeo 1.8 with Air Con in really nice condition five years ago for £1000, and they're pretty easy to sell: If it's anything unpopular or with a big engine, I think you'll struggle.

Having said that, Ebay's a funny thing - put it straight back on, it may go for more money: I sold a 2.4 petrol 4x4 about a month ago within an hour of listing it!

  6. It must be harder to get rid off gasguzzlers now.

  7. I read the other day that due to the economic situation at the moment there are are too many cars and too few buyers. When people tighten their belts the motor trade is one of the first sectors to suffer.Bearing in mind that petrol is cheaper than diesel you should still be able to sell it locally if its in good condition, you just need a bit of patience.
