im tired of people saying that they have never danced, so they say that wont ever be able to do it. i think the only difference is that it cost thousands of more dollars than it would to play a sport like basketball. they think "oh i cant do the splits, so i wont be able to dance". but really the splits doesnt have to do with anything but battements or pitches or leaps. but dancing barely reflects flexibility. i saw a quote that said, "people that are really flexible are only bad substitutes for people that can dance". thats so true! can anybody else add on to my thoughts? or tell me if im "wrong". i wanna see your opinions. but please dont be mean.

  1. it can be important depending on the style, but isnt always essential. I dance and i am naturally flexible, and i have found it helps with leaps splits and differetn jumps however it isnt always nessesary

  2. i felt the same way for i while: i can't do the splits, so i can't get back into dance anymore. BUT THAT IS SO NOT TRUE! yeah, flexibility makes your arabesque higher and your grande jetes beautiful, buts that not what dance is about. yeah, dance does cost a lot of money, but some people, like me, can't go one day without its. I am annoyed, cause i see these questions all the time, but hey, they are newbees and don't really know anything about dance except the professionals who are extremely flexible.

  3. what kind of dance are you talking about? ballet yea you should be flexible it will help you in steps.

  4. i absolutely agree!!!! i am totally not flexible and i am a highly commended dancer!!! it has a little to do with flexibility but not everything if u push urself too hard for flexibility you could end up like my sister who pulled 4 different muscles in her leg trying to go all the way down too fast

  5. i agree and disagree... you can be very flexible and be a horrible dancer but with proper technique you can be not very flexible and be a beautiful dancer. but, flexibility definatly helps with almost every type of dance.
