i personally hate the chase, for one it robs fans from the ability to compare drivers from different generations(petty and earnhardt had 7 titles) jeff gordon has four and if it wasn't for the chase would have two more fot a total of 6. and it also doesn't reward drivers for the performance through the first 26 races.look at kyle busch, won every thing this year and will likely have a huge lead built only for it to disapear.

  1. To be honest, I didn't like it last year because it cost my favorite driver a championship. This year I like it because my man will have a chance at it. So I’ve changed my mind about it.

  2. Yes because Jimmie Johnson cheated last year! I wanted Jeff Gordon to win!

  3. i like the chase, but do dislike how it does tend to reward drivers with a less "fire-in-the-belly" for their sometimes boringly consistent finishes. i do like that it added a whole new level of strategy to the season, and i think that will play out again this year - i believe knaus and johnson have been waiting all year for it to begin to explode.

no, i don't like the fact that it robs those with the most wins or most points of the edge they have once the chase begins (sorry, but 10 points per win is not enough - even a 70 point lead can evaporate in one bad finish), but that's how the game is set up and it's the same for everyone. i probably really won't like it if it ends up "robbing" kyle of a championship, but that's just part of being "irrational" in my fandom, as most fans are.

finally, i disagree that gordon was necessarily robbed of two championships because of the chase format. in order for that to be true, everyone would have had to have raced exactly as they did with the chase format, except without having the chase format.  if there had been no chase format, people would have used different strategies in those last ten races than they actually used because of the chase rules.  he may still have won, but you cannot assume so by simply adding up points and pretending the chase didn't exist. strategy affected those points in the last ten races, and that has to be considered as well, and that is unquantifiable.

  4. i think it's great. I remember before it was created, i didn't even bother watching the last 10 or so races because i already knew who would win the championship.

BUT you're right about the first 26 races. The way kyle's performed it seems he does deserve the championship.

  5. like it for the most part still has a few bugs to be worked out but its like the playoffs for nascar

  6. I totally agree about the generation gap!! Here was my answer to a similar question a while back:

I seriously have trouble even considering anyone who wins the Championship by the chase format as not really the winner, unless they were the points leader when the chase started. I think the chase concept should have been laughed off when brought up because it makes the last 10 races the only ones that are really important. We would also be calling Jeff Gordon a 6 time NASCAR champion instead of 4.

I feel that the winner of the championship should had to have done it over 36 races, and not use 26 races just to get ready for 10.

If any driver is able to get a 300 point lead, I don't care who it is, but I think they would deserve it. Put yourself in the drivers shoes...would you like it if you worked hard 26 races to get a good lead in points, and then with a couple of races to go in the season you have a wreck, and lose any hope of winning the points. Then you lose millions of dollars in the points payout over having a couple of bad races in the chase.

  7. i did at first but its working itself in there

i think its gonna be pretty interesting this year

  8. NOpe..its perfect..it's just what NASCAR needed.  Now the fan-base is even bigger....which is a GOOD thing.

  9. I never have been a fan of the chase format. I think the F1 format is much better. The way it is laid out you not only have to be consistant but you have to be at the top of your game every race. The whole team does... F1 has a three way tie for the lead, kinda right now and you never know who will leave each race with the overall lead.

The way Nascar is set up right now Kyle could litterally start with 100 bonus points, crash out in one race and be out of the lead. And depending on when he dropped out be out of the lead so far winning the cup would be hard to do. I am not a Kyle fan but he has a good lead right now and is a good example of what could happen as it has before.

Before F1's last event Massa was in the lead all by himself. He finished out of the points and now is tied with his team mate and Lewis Hamiton, who finished out of the points the race before after being penalized for ramming into Kimi's rearend when the red light was lit at the end of pit road. Kimi was sitting still/parked! He is the third car in the tie. But because of the way the points system is designed they all have a legit shot at the title as well as P4 and P5.

  10. Only if your a "chicken"

  11. Well I'm sure people woulda been more pissed if Kyle Busch was to win the Championship by a runaway (based on the way his season is going so far). But the Chase at least gives the other 11 a 2nd shot.

  12. I couldn't believe it when the France family did that ! What a joke. I agree with you-it scr*w*d Jeff Gordon. I'm not a Gordon fan either.

I am sure it has made it way more difficult for team owners that don't have a car in the final twelve to find sponsors.

These races all even out-I'll bet Kyle Busch will be pretty vocal if he has issues with his car on the track in the final ten races and doesn't win the championship.

As soon as NASCAR begins losing cars (it has happened already, the #40 plus the #28 is next), and they don't have 43 cars per race, I'll bet they rescind that joke (rule).

  13. I hate to see any driver work hard all season and get ahead only to lose the championship because of a few bad finishes during the chase.  And someone who putzed around all year can win it because the woke up and raced the last 10.  No I don't like the chase never did and never will.  It rewards mediocre drivers and punishes the good ones.

  14. the chase is still kinda a 50/50 thing for me but the top 35, now that is ridiculous, it should be everyman for themselves or at least the top 25 or so in points get in make it more competitive

  15. I'm not a fan of the chase.  There is no reward for killing yourself to get to 1 or2 because as long as you're in the top 12 you can knock anyone out.  I still firmly believe, and this is just my theory but I think in 2003 when Kenseth had it locked up with over a month to go that ticked everyone off because it wasn't Earnhardt Jr, Gordon, Stewart etc but lowly Matt, and I'm a Kenseth & Stewart fan.  I honestly think if Junior would have had that big of a lead and won it then there still would be no chase or no problem.  Why build up a huge point lead during the season, its meaningless now.

  16. I've never liked it and I never will, if they try to fix they'll just mess it up again and make it worse, just dump it..

    Go Dale Jr & Hms

  17. HATE the chase!!!

  18. i dont think it is a bad system it has it's flaws i think the first three years were good and now it sucks
