Yes I go nearly every year to Weimar.

I take the train from Frankfurt to Weimar through Erfurt nearly Jeden Jahr!

It is a beautiful area and Weimar was the Kulturalstadt of 1999 and the home of Ghoethe and Shiller.  The Park am der Ilm created by Ghoethe is gorgeous as is just about the whole city.

They have a Zweibal Markt (Onion Market every first weekend of OCT) and also a Christmas Markt in December.   Their are a few other smaller ones in the year too plus in the other cities Erfurt and Jena have events as well.  More Concerts.

I really recommend Thuringia!
