I've tried it several times before, where I say things like "Taliban", "Al-Qaida" or "I have information" and things of this nature. Every single time I've tried it, noise starts up that sounds like my fax machine. This I'm sure is just a coincidence, but all the same, I find it very peculiar. Just wanted to know if anyone else has ever done this before and had similair results.

  1. i was having a conversation about this the other day...

the static that you heard is probably a coincidence, as all communications are monitored electronically, and would not provide you any way of "hearing" or knowing that the line was being monitored..

echelon has been "secretly" monitoring just about every electronic form of communication for years.. even before the whole "war on terror".

while popular belief is that there is a "list" of words or phrases that trigger a flag, which I also believe, it is more likely that these words or phrases are more carefully monitored if they are spoken in an Arabic language...

I do not believe that there is enough man power for them to actively monitor each conversation or communication, i believe that most of it is done with voice recognition software, (dont believe how good it works? thepudding.com offers free calls with ads on your pc monitor based on what you are talking about, and the government technology is normally 10 years ahead.) i think they just go back and review the conversations that raise the most red flags...
