Anybody ever use a visa or amex gift card to dine at a restaurant?

does it work just like a credit card? how does tipping work? i sent one to my sister and she used to to dine out but rather than taking it to the restaurant she took the cash at an atm for a very large fee which makes me mad beacuse the value loss was high. i'm thinking of sending one to my bridesmaids so i can treat them to a meal after dress shopping. i live across the country from them.

i hate gift cards. most of the time they don;t work so i have to call the company and get a replacement.

I haven't personally used one at a restaurant, but I used to be a waitress and had them used often.  Especially after Christmas.  It works just like a credit card.  The tip is written in the same way as well.

you can use just like credit card, including tipping.  yes great idea for dridesmaids, then they can buy whatever, or eat out.  It is the receipients choice on how they use card not yours, so dont worry about loss if they take money out at atm.
