We purchased this phone several days ago. It came with a base, two additional cradles, with a total of three phones. We set up everything, no problem, all three handsets worked. Yesterday, I noticed the phone that was sitting in the main base had "OUT OF RANGE" on its display. According the the owners manual, that basically means that either there was a power interruption, which there wasn't, or it was too far from the base, which it is not. We tried EVERYTHING; taking out the battery, unplugging the system, even the phone jack, nothing worked. I attempted to contact GE via email, but their automated mail back to me stated to call them..we all know how long that could take to get through. (But will do so if noone has any suggestions.) Anybody else have this problem? I hate to have to repack the whole system to return but will if I have to. Help me!!!

  1. I have found that almost every GE phone does this.  I have a had a good number of them.  You would think I would learn, but they are cheap and work well when they work.  If you have a brown out, which is where the line voltage lowers but isn't cut it can cause problems with electronics.  Your GE phone is one of them.  I have had to play with these phones to get that problem fixed.  You can place it back on the charger for 20 seconds, you can also unplug the base with the phone in the base and then plug it back in 30 seconds later.  If that doesn't work you should take it back to the main base and try both of those that way.  It sounds like you have already taken out the battery, but did you leave it out for at least 30 seconds.  By doing this it simulates a lose of power and resets.

If none of these suggestions work you can reset it by throwing it against a brick wall.  It must be at the proper angle and velocity for this to work and if its not done correctly the phone could break.  Of course you have to wait on hold at GE for atleast 3 hours to get the correct information on how to do this.  If you are not willing to risk improper reseting of the phone a good alternative to this is to return it and purchase a Sony, which are usually more expensive but also more reliable.
