If you hold a charity event people donate a large sum of money. This would be your best course of action. Fund raisers also bring in a large revenue. You could also have many little fund raisers like put up signs and have a night at a popular bar where people pay a cover fee that would go to your cause. Perhaps if more was said about why you need the money I could be of more assistance.
