  1. A statutory assessment is not always part of the statementing process. Any one can request a statutory assessment for their child. The special educational needs coordinator at the school must then arrange for the relevant people such as the educational psychologist, the teacher and any other agencies they think are needed to assess the child to find out it's strengths and weakness's. Depending on what all the agencies decide you are then notified by your local education authority what the findings of the assessment are. As the number of children who have statements of special educational needs is being cut many children are now being moved onto individual education plans. There are two levels of IEP's, school action and school action plus. Hope this helps.

  2. Is this preschool/early years or mainstream school?

Either way ask to speak to SENCO and mention it to them as they can start the process.

Otherwise contact your local education authoirty through council and ask to speak to the Special Educational Needs advisors or ask for details of their local parent partnership scheme.

You can also go through your GP for more contact details of professionals to support you.

If you are a professional not the parent then speak to the SENCO advisor that comes to your setting as they will need to contact an educational psycologist.

  3. make sure they put in a speech delayed in his IEP so he can get the right amount of hours at school.
