Question:

Anybody have growing tips for my Kalamansi (Calamondin) plant?

I've received kalamansi fruit by mail from my Filipino grandma and kept them in my fridge for about a week. I made kalamansi-ade and soaked some of the seeds in a moist towel. Amazingly some matured, and I decided to plant two seeds at the beginning of July. One didn't do so well, but the other is growing fast! Two shoots have sprouted from a single tree and they are about one inch in height. They seem healthy, but a shoot that was supposed to sprout died. Despite this the two others are doing good. I've been searching for a informative web site everywhere but I haven't found one. Any tips or info? What's a Kalamansi's growth rate? When does a wooden stem develop?

  1. I am looking at my Sunset Western Garden book.  The book states that it most importantly needs fast drainage, never in standing water.  Water twice a week during warm weather, more often if extremely hot. This citrus variety does well in a pot.  It will grow to 8-10 feet, even in a pot.  Unfortunately, it doesn't have any information on growth rate.

It really sounds like an interesting tree to grow - good luck with it.  You might try the Sunset Publishing Corporation website.  The main office is in Menlo Park CA.  The website is www.sunset.com
