Anybody having problems with the DTV converter boxes?

We have rabbit ears. Sometimes the box works other times we get pixels and interupted voice, then the best part is we get "weak signal" all over the TV screen and loose the program. What a rip off!

  1. most DTV assignments are on the UHF TV band, and rabbit ears are primarily for VHF (2-13) channels. You should at least get a rabbit ear that has a UHF loop or better yet, get a UHF outdoor antenna.

  2. While some digital converter boxes are better than others, the problem may not be in your converter box.  If you receive your TV signals from a distance it may be the signal strength.  The transmit power of the digital signal was designed to have the same coverage as the analog signal.  But this hasn't been the case.  It's been found that the power authorized for the digital signal is in many cases too weak to reach the same distance that the analog signal does.  It sounds like your right on the edge of a usable digital signal.  Try a better antenna.  An outdoor antenna would be best but if you can't use one of those, get a better indoor one.  Be careful of antennas with an amplifier.  In many cases the amp is too cheap and causes more problems than it's worth.  An you don't need a "digital" antenna.  A good antenna is a good antenna.  Even the old "analog" antenna will do a fine job for digital reception.  It doesn't have to cost a lot but you need something better than the rabbit ears.  Locate the antenna as high as you can and, for indoor ones, as close to a window as possible.

  3. You must be in a low signal area for digital! Maybe you should consider investing an a booster antenna, you can get them from Argos.
