Anybody in Los Angeles area have any cheap birthday ideas?

I have a son who is about to turn 10, every year I take him somewhere for his birthday instead of a party. I am running out of ideas.

To add to BlueBear's list, Knotts Berry Farm, Discount tickets can be gotten at Ralphs.  They also have a Soak City but I do not know the price there.

try camping.  check out Lake Piru.  It's 20 minutes away from Magic Mountain.  

You can also take him to Nickle Nickle.  It's an arcade, and the games are cheap.  Some games are free, but most are two to three nickle for each game..  Also, you pay an admission, $1.75 for each person.  They have new and old games.
