Anybody in college and lives in a dorm?

Question

I need people in college to tell me what they really needed for their dorms..what was unnecessary to bring and what were things they actually used. I dont' want a canned list from CollegeBoard or anything...I want real answers. Please help me? I'm freaking out over what I should pack for college! I only have 2 weeks!

i just finished my dorm shopping and here is what i got:

(by the waay you dont have to get all this stuff)

Linens

Two sets of standard twin sized bed linens

Pillow cases

Towels and washclothes

Pillow

Standard twin-sized matress pad

Bedspread/comforter

Blanket/Quilt

Personal care items

Toiletries,cosmetcs,soap,ect

Shampoo

Deodorant

Laundry Detergant

Bucket or container for shower supplies

light snacks to keep in room

mini fridge

Clothing related items

bathrobe

shower shoes

laundry basket or bag

iron with automatic shutoff

coat hangers

Furnishings

alarm clock

desk lamp or floor lamp

flash light

trash can with bags

shower curtain and hooks

brrom and mop

small vacum

phone

circuit protected multi plug strip

DONT BRING:

large things like steroes or big tv's they just take up space

valuable things because people will steal it

candles,lighters,matches so your dorm wont catch on fire haha

refrigeraters taller than 3 feet

extension cords

electrical heating items without automatic shut off

and of  course pets

Remember to bring the necessities and not a lot of junk (dorm rooms are generally small and don't hold a lot of stuff). Check out this article for some of the inexpensive stuff that I found most useful while I was living in the dorms last year.
